UK: Muslims launch ‘Jubilee Buses’ & Walk for Queen’s Charities

100 buses on behalf of UK Muslims are running in London with a banner congratulating Her Majesty The Queen on her Diamond Jubilee.

And, hundreds of Muslims from across Britain will converge on the Tower of London on Sunday May 13th at 10.00AM for a 10km charity walk, which is expected to raise up to half a million pounds for The Queen’s charities.

The charity walk is an annual fixture in the community’s calendar and in recent years has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for British charities each year. This year a special effort is being made in honour of the Diamond Jubilee.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson; Secretary of State for Communities, Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP; and a number of senior figures from charities; the Metropolitan Police; and the Armed Forces together with various diplomats and parliamentarians will attend the historic walk.

The occasion will also see the launch of 100 special buses in London congratulating The Queen on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee. The banners on the London buses will also sport the Jubilee Logo and the Ahmadiyya Muslim motto:  Love for All, Hatred for None.

Mayor Boris Johnson said different communities that make up the fabric of British life play a part in honoring the monarch on this special occasion.

“I am delighted the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is driving forward its celebrations for the Jubilee with a bus campaign in the capital,” said Mayor Johnson. “As a long-established community in London, the Ahmadiyya Muslims have spearheaded peace and interfaith activities and this public statement of their support for Queen and country is one that we share and take much pride in.”

The Secretary of State for Communities, Rt Hon Eric Pickles who will be at the Closing Ceremony at 3.00PM said The Ahmadiyya Muslim community plays a significant role in promoting community cohesion and great events like this show Britain at its best.

“2012 is a great year for the country and with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics just around the corner there has been no better time for communities to come together and celebrate,” Secretary Pickles said.

The Ahmadiyya leaders have have extended the invitation to the media on Thursday 10th May at 13.00 at the Tower of London for 90 minutes, where a London Bus with the Jubilee message and Senior Members of the Charities will be available for interviews, filming and photography opportunities prior to the main event on Sunday.
