Telling the truth should be news – If it happened, it will be here…

Canada: Run for Bradford hits street June 10

Last year’s event, organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, saw more than 150 participants run, jog and walk their way toward raising over $10,000 in support of the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library and Cultural Centre. Needless to say, hopes are high that this year’s run will be even more successful.

Event raises cash for library, cultural centre

Lace up your sneakers, because the second annual Run for Bradford (BWG) takes to the streets this Sunday.

“I am pretty sure that within few years, (the) Run for Bradford (BWG) will grow into one of the premier charity walks in Simcoe County,” run chairperson Munawar Chudary said. “I would like to encourage everyone to participate in this second annual Run for Bradford (BWG).”

Participants in this year’s event will have their choice of a five-kilometre run or a three-kilometre run/jog/walk. Organized in co-operation with the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, the second annual Run for Bradford (BWG) will raise funds in support of the library, the new leisure centre and heritage.

More than that, the event is about fostering community spirit, Mr. Chudary added.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, Mayor Doug White encouraged everyone to participate in the run and show their support. The AMJ-organized Run for Vaughan has raised more than $500,000 since its inception in 2003, he said, adding it’s clear the group knows how to raise funds for the betterment of a community.

“The Run for Bradford (BWG) is fully endorsed by the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury,” he said. “This annual event is aimed at supporting initiatives for the betterment of this vibrant community.”

Ward 1 Councillor Raj Sandhu said he too is in full support of the run.

The event will take place Sunday, June 10 at 10 a.m. and depart from the AMJ’s property located at 3999 10th Sideroad (between the 11th and 12th Lines). It promises to be a full day of family fun with jumping castles, volleyball games and more.

Visitors can partake in all of the fun for free as only participants in the five-kilometre run and three-kilometre run/jog/walk are required to pay an entry fee. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for a nominal cost.
