Formerly a church, Hadee Mosque in Harrisburg, PA – which installed its Muslim identity of a Crescent and Star just a little over three weeks ago – was inaugurated on Thursday by the Khalifa of Islam, His Holiness, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.

Hadhrat Ahmad, who leads the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, is on his tour of the United States where he will preside over the 64th National Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Harrisburg, PA.

His Holiness arrived at the mosque and immediately after the dedication ceremony lead the congregation in Asr prayers.

The Crescent and Star on the former Lakeside Lutheran Church at 245 Division St. was installed on June 1, 2012 and the lettering of Kalima, the Islamic Creed, was installed a few days later, on June 10th.

The community says the lettering was manufactured in Pakistan where Ahmadis are forbidden to recite the Kalima.

“Shipped all the way from Pakistan – where the Kalima is erased on Ahmadiyya Mosques – we are proud and humbled that many generations to come will seek solitude in these words displayed on an Ahmadiyya Mosque in the United States of America,” says the Ahmadiyya website.

Akram Khalid, president of the York/Harrisburg Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said His Holiness imparted “blessed advice to further improve the facility.”

Hadee Mosque facility has been serving the community at large since its acquisition by Ahmadi Muslims.

The mosque has hosted the annual community interfaith service, organized a community blood drive, helped flood victims, helped clean up a nearby lake, and opened its doors to other faiths needing a place to worship.

“Our motto is ‘Love for All, Hatred for None,’ ” Akram Khalid was quoted to have told Patriot News in an interview a few month ago. “We have the same message as Christians and Jews. We respect other faiths. We want to help the community.”

Hadee Mosque has over 300 active members and the congregation has kept the former sanctuary as a multipurpose conference room that can hold up to 500 people.

After the ceremony at Hadee Mosque, His Holiness Hadhrat Ahmad proceeded to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center to inspect arrangements for the Annual Convention scheduled to start on Friday, June 29, 2012.
