Indonesia: Ahmadiyya mosque attacked by Islamists in Bandung, West Java


For a period of time, according to the local media reports, the FPI men held 10 Ahamdi members, including 3 women, hostages inside the building. Mosque was later completely evacuated by the police but the attackers were allowed to leave free, it was reported.

Bandung: While chanting “God Is Great,” dozens of protesters from the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), an Islamist extremist group, damaged the An-Nasir Mosque in Jalan Sapari, Astanaanyar Subdistrict,

The incident took place around 23.00 GMT on Thursday, October, 25th, Metro TV News has reported.

The mosque belongs to the Ahmadiyya Muslim community where broken glass from the damage was seen all over floor of the mosque.

According to one member of the Ahmadiyya community, who was present in the mosque during the incident, a mob of about 30 people came bursting into the facility and started damaging the place.

“We were very afraid as FPI protesters have previously caused large scale destruction to our properties” he said.

Lucky, the destruction is not too severe this time, Riki explained, but a lot of broken glass is on the first floor of the two story mosque, .

According to the Information obtained the FPI mob first come to the mosque at 20: 00 GMT demanding stoppage of all activity at the mosque.

The police was already there when the mob arrived and the cops took the representatives of the FPI and the Ahmadiyya community to police station for questioning and resolution.

However, according to the reports, a number of FPI hooligans had remained at the mosque and suddenly the ruckus broke out and they came barging in and damaged the mosque.

Mosque was later completely evacuated by the police but the attackers were allowed to leave free, it was reported.

Currently, dozens of police from Bandung are present at the mosque and the fate of the worship place is unclear.

Dozens of Ahmadiyys worshipers cried with shock on Friday morning when they arrived at An-Nasir mosque for Eid prayers because there was no Eid prayers activity.

Eid prayer was forcibly stopped following the attack the night before and worshipers could only stare at the mosque which was surrounded by the police.
