Rawalpindi: “Pastor and evangelist Ashraf Aslam, who is Pastor of the “Good news church and ministries” in Rawalpindi/Islamabad has been falsely accused of blasphemy (295c) by Mulana Abu Shakeel Hayath. Pastor Ashraf Aslam is also falsely accused of abducting his own sister Arzoo from her husband. She fled from her husband because of efforts to forcibly convert her to Islam. “

REAL, a human rights organization based in Washington DC writes “Our team approached Pastor Ashraf and his family for interview while they were hiding and Pastor Ashraf made us aware of that he has been beaten, humiliated, and that Mulana Abu Shakeel Hayath and Mohammad Zeeshan have tried to kill him. They also filed a FIR (295c) on Pastor Ashraf and a warrant has been issued against Pastor Ashraf.

Our team approached police station who verified this and spoke to the relevant police officer who notified us they are searching Pastor Ashraf and that they will get him and put him in jail. The police officer also confirmed that a fatwa has been issued against Pastor Ashraf and he needs to hand himself to the police to fulfill law and for his own protection. Pastor Ashraf Aslam and his family are appealing to the prime minister and president to give them justice and protection. He also requested Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take action against those people who wants to kill him and his family.”

Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) supports the religious freedom and freedom of conscience for all people, which is inherently described in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and is explicitly described in Article 18 of the UDHR, which state: “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.” We urge our friends in the media, in Pakistan, and both our Muslim and Christian brothers and sisters, to call upon the Pakistan government to protect the religious freedom of all people. We urge them to call for the freedom of those whose religious freedom, liberty, and equality are threatened by so-called “blasphemy laws” which are used to make false and exaggerated charges on a regular basis to deny universal human rights and freedom to others.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We urge all to be consistently responsible for equality and liberty.
